Scolarest puts Helfty on the school menu, more sustainable meat that is half plant-based

Food is of vital importance to schools in the care of their pupils.

Scolarest, our partner that manages more than 220 restaurants in educational establishments in Belgium, works hard to ensure that the meals served in their schools are always of high quality, healthy and safe. In addition, they also want to make pupils aware of taking care of our planet and the role food plays in that.

From 7 March, Scolarest will start offering meat products with half less meat in schools under the apt name 'Helfty'. Helfty is minced meat half mixed with vegetarian ingredients prepared by our partners Solina and Viangro. 

The students can thus enjoy, for example, tasty burgers that contain half the amount of meat. The hamburger is also healthy and sustainable. The production of meat has an enormous impact on the environment, and reducing the amount of meat used is a positive attitude that is encouraged. By eating less meat for a change, we want to encourage Scolarest pupils to further reduce their ecological footprint.

Helfty products thus use half as much meat, but their flavour and bite remain unaffected. By using an innovative mix of vegetable fibres and proteins based mainly on wheat, a tasty texture is guaranteed. The Solina and Viangro mix consists of 30% vegetable protein, 10% sunflower oil, 60% water and various spices. The range currently includes hybrid chicken mince, pork mince and beef mince, from chipolatas to even blind finches. We have also had this hybrid meat blindly tested by 90 chefs, who unanimously approved it. A Helfty hamburger is just as tasty as a regular one (if not tastier).
